With my coach I’d created an ambitious action plan.
I was dutifully working through the steps, marking bits done as I went. I was getting accustomed to the little pat on the back from my coach as I completed tasks. Little things like “Nice!” and “Keep crushing these tasks!”
Make no mistake: these weren’t profound or even original sentiments; they were probably banged out in 10 seconds or less as a text by my coach who’d just taken a beat to read the notification of my latest accomplishment on his phone.
But ooh, what a treat to receive! This project wouldn’t be released for a while, so I wouldn’t get any real-world validation until it was all done and launched. To get my cookie for completing any step along the way was encouraging, nourishing to the creative spirit in ways that toiling in isolation usually isn’t.
Everyone likes getting their cookie.
